For the first time, ERRATIC WEATHER is presented in an immersive full-dome environment. Beneath a 360° projection dome, audiences are completely surrounded by sound and visuals, transforming MAOTIK and Maarten Vos' acclaimed audiovisual performance into an entirely new experience.
Inspired by the growing impact of climate change, ERRATIC WEATHER translates historical hurricane data into a living audiovisual landscape that unfolds in real time.
Before each performance, the system selects a historical hurricane from a database. Scientific data—including geolocation, atmospheric pressure, temperature and wind speed—forms the foundation for a unique composition of sound and visuals. No two performances are ever the same. Each show follows the life cycle of a different storm, allowing audiences to experience the beauty, power and unpredictability of nature through an ever-changing generative artwork.
During the performance, swirling hurricanes, typhoons and tropical cyclones evolve across the dome while music and imagery respond continuously to the underlying data. The result is a poetic interpretation of our changing climate—both mesmerizing and thought-provoking.
The immersive dome transforms the performance into something entirely new. Instead of watching the storm unfold on a screen, audiences find themselves inside it. The 360° environment amplifies the scale, movement and emotion of the work, creating an experience that can only exist within a dome.
